Novel Effective Yeast Strains and Their Performance in High Gravity and Very High Gravity Ethanol Fermentations from Sweet Sorghum Juice

چکیده
Yeasts were isolated from four potential sources, sweet sorghum juice, sugar cane grapes and rambutan. The 27 yeast isolates tested for their ethanol tolerance (15% v/v of ethanol) fermentation performance in a synthetic production medium (200 g/L total sugar). Only five isolates, SCJ04KKU, SCJ07KKU, SCJ09KKU, SCJ14KKU SSJ01KKU could tolerate 15% produce at levels higher than 55 g/L. efficiency juice under high gravity (HG, 200 240 sugar) very (VHG, 280 conditions the was tested. Saccharomyces cerevisiae NP01 S. ATCC4132 used as reference strains. results showed that isolate gave highest all conditions. Ethanol concentration (PE), yield (YP/S) productivity (QP) values 98.89 g/L, 0.50 1.18 g/L·h, respectively, with consumption (SC) 98.96% HG condition sugar. Under sugar, PE, YP/S QP 118.12 0.51 1.41 SC 95.79%. These 82.29 0.34 0.98 85.59% VHG condition. Addition urea into significantly shortened time, resulting increased values. Based on molecular taxonomic analysis using sequence D1/D2 domain ITS1 ITS2 regions, is cerevisiae, whereas SCJ09KKU are Pichia caribbica.

Ethanol production from sweet sorghum juice under very high gravity conditions: Batch, repeated-batch and scale up fermentation
Batch ethanol fermentations from sweet sorghum juice by Saccharomyces cerevisiae NP 01 were carried out in a 500 ml air-locked Erlenmeyer flask under very high gravity (VHG) and static conditions. The maximum ethanol production efficiency was obtained when 9 g l of yeast extract was supplemented to the juice. The ethanol concentration (P), productivity (Qp) and yield (Yp/s) were 120.24 ± 1.35 g...
متن کاملApplication of very high gravity technology to the cofermentation of sweet stem sorghum juice and sorghum grain
Ethanol production from mixtures of sweet stem sorghum juice and sorghum grain was investigated under normal and very high gravity (VHG) fermentation conditions. Fermentation was carried out using Saccharomyces cere6isiae yeast strain N96 at 30°C. For VHG fermentation, sucrose was added to the sweet sorghum juice to obtain a concentration of 34 g per 100 ml of dissolved solids. Fermentation was...

The application and physiological background of two industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains, isolated from harsh industrial environments, were studied in Very High Gravity (VHG) bio-ethanol fermentations. VHG laboratory fermentations, mimicking industrially relevant conditions, were performed with PE-2 and CA1185 industrial strains and the CEN.PK113-7D laboratory strain. The industrial isol...

متن کاملA Novel Strategy to Construct Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains for Very High Gravity Fermentation
Very high gravity (VHG) fermentation is aimed to considerably increase both the fermentation rate and the ethanol concentration, thereby reducing capital costs and the risk of bacterial contamination. This process results in critical issues, such as adverse stress factors (ie., osmotic pressure and ethanol inhibition) and high concentrations of metabolic byproducts which are difficult to overco...
